TURF LEVELLING AUSTRALIA
BOWLING GREEN SPECIALIST

About
Turf Levelling Australia is developing new technology to improve green levels while reducing green downtime.
Stewart's aim is to reduce levelling downtime to less than three weeks. This allows greens to be levelled annually without disrupting the playing schedule. Greens can now be kept practically dead flat (most of the green within 5mm). This is a game changer for levelling bowling greens.
TLA is an Adelaide based company owned and operated by Stewart Jones who has a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Adelaide and has played lawn bowls for over 30 years. Stewart has spent the last seven years developing new levelling techniques to reduce green down time, reduce levelling costs and improve green performance. Greenkeepers can now even level their own greens using the new TLA app on their mobile phones.
The techniques are called Laser Topressing and Laser Scarifying. The first step is to conduct a baseline survey of the green and determine where the problem areas are. The second step is to spread 2-5mm of soil on only the low areas and scarify down high areas by up to 20mm. Grass will regrow from the existing root system. Greens can usually be played on 3-5 weeks after levelling. The final step is a follow-up survey six months after levelling to monitor progress. Levelling should be performed annually until the desired green profile has been obtained. There after, a combination of Laser Scarifying and full green topdressing can be performed to keep greens practically flat.
TLA is Adelaide based but operates Australia wide. Please contact Stewart on 0418 814 274 for any enquires.

Green Survey
Do some areas of your green play better than others? A survey will plot the contours of a green and display where the high/low areas are. Low and high areas can be marked with paint to pin point problem areas on the actual green.

Oval / Pitch Survey
Do you have drainage issues on your oval? Do you have high and low areas? A survey will map out the contours and show you how to level the oval yourself using www.turfmap.com.au.

Laser Topdressing
Add soil to only the low areas of your green. Typically 2-3t of soil is appled to 20-50% of the green. Slowly build up low areas to improve green performance and turf health. A follow-up survey is included to monitor progress.

Laser Shaving
Remove high areas of your green in 10mm layers. Grass will re-grow from the existing root system. A follow-up survey is included to monitor progress.

Laser Scarifying
Laser Scarifying down high areas and then doing a full topdress is the best way to level greens and maximise smoothness, while reducing renovation time.

www.turfmap.com
All survey results will be published online. Simply open www.turfmap.com while standing on your green to know if you're standing in a high or low area.

DIY Levelling Program
Would you like to levell your greens yourself? For clubs who want to do the work themselves, TLA can annually survey your green and provide all the information necessary for clubs to raise low areas and lower high areas.

Testimonials

"After purchasing our Motorised Roller Trolley, we are now able to transport our Smooth roller and Turf-Tec roller with ease between the different gradients whilst guarding the health and safety of the volunteers."
— Dennis Reid, Beaumont BC

“I use Stewart to level greens at all my clubs. Members have noticed improvements but the best part is we can perform all levelling over the mid season break or after the season has finished. ”
— Gary Thompson, Greenkeeper at Brighton BC, Kensington-Marryatville BC and Trinity Gardens BC.

“Paskeville BC contacted Stewart five years ago to level our green. The green has gone from being below standard (and players leaving) to hosting Div. 1 finals. The green is surveyed annually and sand spread on the required areas. We have no hesitation in recommending him after the results he's been able to achieve.”
— Neil Harrop, Paskeville BC
